China’s imports of copper scrap from the United States, previously one of China’s biggest suppliers, fell 37 percent in October from a month earlier to 6,065 tons, less than a sixth of 39,732 tons a year earlier, according to the general administration of customs.Imports of 330,000 tonnes of scrap metal in October were the lowest since at least 2014.Refined copper prices were supported by a continued sharp fall in scrap imports, but gains and losses in spot prices were limited today as markets awaited the outcome of trade talks between Chinese and us leaders later this week.
